Intervarsity Polo 2013

Any plans for next weekend? How about a day at the Polo? Teams from Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard and Yale will do battle at the first ever Varsity Polo Tournament in Tianjin.

The tournament will run from 23 – 27 July at the stunning grounds of the Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club (pictured above), with the Cambridge-Oxford match on Saturday 27 and the final on Sunday 28 July. (Friday is a rest day).

A limited number of complimentary tickets have been offered to OCCB alumni and friends, which includes access to all the matches, shuttle service from the Tianjin South train station on the Saturday and Sunday, and refreshments at the matches. Alumni and friends are also offered discounted accommodation at the exclusive members-only Club, as well as the option to participate (non-complimentary) in other social events at the Club during the tournament.

How to get there: if coming from Beijing, we suggest you take the Beijing-Tianjin high speed train. The organizers will operate a shuttle bus on 27th and 28th July from 12:00 to 16:00 from Tianjin South Train Station to our polo club. Frequency is every 30 minutes. Further details available from the organizers.

Time: a schedule is here (note: the High Dinner and Farewell Party are not included in the complimentary tickets).

The gate will open at 16:00 every tournament days except 15:30 on Sunday, so please arrive at the polo venue on time.

Dress code: Smart casual. Guests can use the clubhouse’s recreation changing room facilities to change.

Viewing arrangements: Spectators will watch the match from within the air conditioned marquee tents, or from in-front of the marquees.

Included: The complimentary tickets include complimentary refreshments during the matches. Alumni of the four participating universities are invited to the post-match cocktail at the Derby Lounge of the Polo Club Hotel and enjoy a complimentary drink. Similarly, for 28 July (Sun), there will be a post-match cocktail reception at the Derby Lounge of the Polo Club Hotel and alumni enjoy a complimentary drink.
